Sanjel Corporation presents to one of the largest CADE luncheon presentation audiences.
Sanjel presented to a capacity audience of 195 members at CADE's Monthly Technical Industry Luncheon on March 23, 2005. Senior Technical Specialist, Harold Slater, P.Eng., delivered a break-through presentation on Sanjel's "Innovative Gas Migration Solutions with Refined Cement Blends". The presentation illustrated Sanjel's refined blend development process and highlighted our ongoing research and development advancements for combating one of the major challenges facing energy producers today - gas migration. Please refer to the presentation's abstract below for a full overview:
Two principle objectives facing primary cementing operations are casing support and zonal isolation, with zonal isolation being the hardest to achieve when there is potential for formation gas to invade the cement column. The current number of gas wells with incomplete zonal isolation is over 10,000 in Alberta alone. In these cases, gas leaks pose substantial problems, not only in the form of expensive remediation and negative environmental impact, but also in the loss of a finite resource. Successful prevention of gas migration during the primary cementing operation is an evolving science. Using unique industry leading gas migration lab equipment, Sanjel Corporation has demonstrated that conventional approaches do not always prove correct in every case to prevent this problem. Sanjel's presentation reviews previous gas migration control concepts, and introduces new innovative solutions and understandings that will change the mindset for the oil and gas industry. Harold Slater, P Eng. and Senior Technical Specialist for Sanjel Corporation, is currently based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. In 1968, after graduating from the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Canada with a B.Sc. degree in mechanical engineering, Harold joined Hudson's Bay Oil and Gas Co. Ltd. in their Drilling and Completions Department in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Harold moved to Calgary in 1972 to pursue opportunities in the gas-well testing area, and after four years in this discipline, he continued his work in the drilling, completion and production engineering sector working for various oil companies. Harold spent a 10-year period as an independent consultant, managing assignments in drilling, completions, well work-over, and oil-processing facility and pipeline installation. He then joined PanCanadian in 1998, where he was responsible for well-abandonment operations and completion design for oil-producing, steam-injection and disposal wells associated with the company's steam-assisted gravity drainage projects. Harold finally joined Sanjel in 2001 and is responsible for designing and managing remedial cementing projects that specialize in surface casing vent flow and gas migration interventions for North American producers. Sanjel, a privately owned Canadian-based international oilfield service company, offers global oil and gas producers specialized solutions in Acidizing, Cementing, Coiled Tubing, Fracturing and Nitrogen services. Headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Sanjel operates over 20 district offices throughout North America, supported by our Sales and Engineering offices, full service Technical Centers, industry-leading Fabrication and Maintenance Center and corporate Training Center.
